News Release – Planning for a hassle-free return trip means planning to get a passport

Gatineau, QC, January 12, 2010—Passport Canada wants Canadians visiting Jamaica to have a hassle-free travel experience. So we're reminding everyone that, though you can travel to Jamaica with an ID and proof of citizenship, you'll need a valid Canadian passport to get back home to Canada. Canadians boarding a flight back to Canada must present a valid Canadian passport. Airlines are required by law to ensure all travellers are properly documented before they embark—no exceptions.

Each year, many travellers attempting to board return flights to Canada without a passport are denied boarding because they do not have the proper travel documentation. These individuals are then faced with unanticipated delays while their passport application is processed.

So don't risk getting stranded or delayed—obtain your Canadian passport before you leave Canada and come back worry free!
